Camellia x williamsii 'China Clay'

Wrong, obviously enough. Should be white.

  1. Can you tell me what this one should be called on the label? My daughter saw it at Mount Edgecumbe last week and chose it as her favourite and I want to buy one for her.

    • I wish I knew what it was. It was one of a collection of Camellias donated to the collection years ago by the family of a camellia enthusiast who lived (and died) in Kent. It matches nothing in a list of his collection that I have, so he probably obtained it as ‘China Clay’ but I have no idea what it is or where he obtained it from. It is even possible that he raised it himself and that it has never been properly named. Some of his plants were seedlings with just the name of the parent plant(s) on them; he will have known what they were but in some cases it seems he died without passing the information on. Perhaps the closest thing to it in the collection is ‘William Honey’.
