Area 4C – notes

‘Alex Blackadder’ (4C-001) was labelled ‘Alexander Black’, a variety described as a dark crimson formal double. I have concluded it is ‘Alex Blackadder’ and relabelled it. It was hit by a falling tree in 2023 and badly damaged.

‘Martha Brice’ (4C-003) There was a plant labelled ‘Martha Bryce’ in 1E but I have concluded that this one is correct and the other one something else. ‘Martha Brice’ is an American variety.

‘Metallica’ (4C-004) never fully opens its flowers, to the point that it is not worth having, but otherwise matches its description.

‘Prince Frederick William’ (4C-006) matches its description in spite of the register implying that the name was misapplied to ‘Princess Frederick William’ in Europe.
