Area 2B – Notes
‘Apollo’ (2B-021) was labelled ‘Mars’ but it is right next to ‘Apollo’ (2B-001) and the two bushes appear identical. It doesn’t match pictures or descriptions of ‘Mars’ that I have seen.
‘Delia Williams’ (2B-008) was originally labelled ‘Citation’, which was for many years given in the Register as being the prior name for ‘Delia Williams’. Further research proved them to be two different varieties and this bush is ‘Delia Williams’.
‘Marguerite’ (2B-020) is not listed in the register. There is a ‘Marguerita’, which this variety does not match, and numerous ‘Marguerite’ + surname. I can find no reference to the variety anywhere so am unable to verify its authenticity.
‘Saturnia’ (2B-025) is one of at least three plants that were labelled ‘Twiss Cornwall’, a name relegated to being just a synonym when I realised they were identical to ‘Saturnia’.
(2B-012) was labelled ‘Exaltation’ AM 64. According to the Register, ‘Exaltation’ was given an Award of Merit by the RHS in 1968 and 1974 but this is not remotely like ‘Exaltation’. It may have been the rootstock of a grafted plant; it looks like a seedling of ‘Anemoniflora’.
