There are four plants of this variety in the sections of primarily old European varieties along the Earl’s Drive. This one is in the formal doubles section and was labelled ‘Madame de Strekaloff’; the other three were all labelled ‘Trionfo di Lodi’. The register description of ‘Madame de Strekaloff’ is of a pink formal double with a slightly confused centre. The pictures included are nothing like this variety.
The register entry for ‘Trionfo di Lodi shows a Verschaffelt image and uses his description. Again, it is a formal double, pale pink with red stippling and stripes.
This variety then appears to belong to neither of the names it has been given. Of other plants in the collection it comes closest to ‘Presse’s Eclipse’ but is not quite the same.
The flowers are 7.5-8cm wide, starting to open in January and peaking in February at Mt Edgcumbe.
