It was named by Major General E.G.W.W. Harrison for his wife. As reported in the RHS., The Rhododendron and Camellia Yearbook, No.23, p.105, it won first prize for a single white cultivar in 1969.
Thank you for the information re Camellia ‘Roza Harrison’. I was interested because Roza was my grandmother’s cousin – my first cousin twice removed. I have managed to get a Polar Bear rhodo bred by her first husband, Jack Stevenson, of Tower Court, and also got 3 from Millais with names associated with Tower Court. I would really like to get rhododendron ‘AZOR’, which is her name spelled backwards. Have so far been unsuccessful, so wonder if you can point me in the right direction. Also I would like the camellia Roza Harrison
If you could help me out there. Incidentally, she had a twin sister, Brunhilde, known to us as Hilde and I know that Stevenson also bred a rhodo ‘Brunhilde’ maybe in the thirties, but it did not receive AGM as others did. Thanking you in advance.
Hi Jim. You very kindly sent me some cuttings of Camellia ‘Roza Harrison’ towards the end of last year, but unfortunately I have had no success at all. It was just a gamble, as I was only able to put them in a lidded propagator with bottom heat (with hormone rooting powder). You said you would also try and do some for me, so I am wondering how they are doing. Thank you.
I’ve had no more success than you I’m sorry to say, with that variety or several others I tried. Next window of opportunity is late July or thereabouts.
Would like to know why this camellia is so named.
