Intriguing! I know I have a poor sense of smell but I can always smell ‘Minato-no-akebono’ and my partner usually gets nothing. The amount of scent can be very temperature dependant too. Or maybe there is more than one clone going under the name ‘Scented Red’. I have sniffed the Mt Edgcumbe plant many times and have never detected enough scent to be really certain I’m not imagining it. Then again, some scents you get the first time but it’s as if the receptors are then blocked and you can’t smell it again. Could that happen so quickly that the flower appears to be scentless? The most likely explanation would be that your nose is a lot more sensitive than mine, but is that right?
Mine is beautifully scented!
